Is it OK to email somone instead of ringing somone If I want them to be a reference on my CV?

So I need to ask an old boss of mine, from my work experience at high school (which was last year sometime) so I can use her as a reference on my CV (we need two references, and I already have one). I really need to get a job while I study. Is it OK to just email her, using my professional email adress, or should I ring her?

i’d say ringing is best – more personal. remember, you want this person to say nice things about you, so you want her to remeber you as the nice friendly person who took the time to call and ask about her day!

ring, ask them how are you?, are you enjoying your new classes?, anything changed at school?, bet you miss last years students! I’m studying this, Im doing really well, have a good 5-10min yabber, then say, by the way im applying for a job, would you mind..

that way, she has a great impression of you, and will pass that on in your referenece.

added bonus – she may have some other suggestions about jobs, and keep an eye out too! She may prove even more helpful than you thought!

It is always recommended not to include references on your resume. I was taught this in college and also having worked in Human resources. It takes up space in the resume and if and when the employer needs or wants the references they will request it.

    always end with.
    references furnished upon employers request.

careerbuilder and monster.com has great articles on it.

    But back to your question.

A brief email would be ok, if it goes unanswered then you may want to follow up with a call.

but phoning is so much more personable
